A Pair of 1860's Parasols

...that are neither black marquis nor French chantilly!  Both are rather recent acquisitions; one is now recovered and the other still all original.

The first is probably American, but I don't know for sure.  Her beadwork and shepherd's crook handle suggest to me that she is 1864-1866.

Her base cover a champagne silk in a twill weave.  The fabric has two colors woven in-a dark champagne and a light cream that creates almost a teeny tiny pin stripe effect.   Over that, a cream silk gauze is laid in pleats from finial to ends.  A 4" ruffle of the same silk gauze goes around the edges and it is edged with a thin black lace.  Where the ruffle meets the main fabric there is a strip of black beads.  The corners where the ribs end have two ruffles, edged in the same black lace as before.  Her finial is wood tipped in bone.  Her handle and shaft are all painted wood and her handle features a shepherd's crook handle.  This parasol is also a marquis.

The second parasol is from English, which I think is where she was made.  I have since recovered her, but here are her original pictures.

I didn't get any pictures of her uncovered, which is a shame because her frame was quite interesting.  She has a period fix on one rib, and the end of the rib is different than the others.  The fixed on has a ball end and a little hole for the thread to attach the fabric.  The other ribs have rib tips of metal which is new for me.  I chose a brown stripe to recover her in as I could not find a small black and white striped fabric.  Other than that, I copied the original cover exactly.
